ProForm Trainer 14.0 Review – Pros & Cons (2024)

Editor's Rating: 7.6 /10

Originally launched as a Costco-only treadmill, the ProForm Trainer 14.0 is now available through both the ProForm site andCostCo. What’s more, the ProForm lineup now features this unit as being available in exchange for a three-year membership to the iFit workout app. This is a heck of a deal, in my opinion. You’ll get the machine when you agree to a three-year iFit Family Membership priced at $39 per month, or $1,404. Typically, you would have to pay about $1,199 for the treadmill, and then the $39 per month iFit subscription atop that. This nearly halves the cost. The good news/bad news about all iFit-enabled machines is that their screens lose value without the iFit package. Being able to get the machine for free in exchange for a three-year commitment to the app is a great deal, in my mind.

As far as the unit itself goes, the full-sized folding treadmill seems just a notch bigger across the board than the ProForm Trainer 12.0. If you’re looking for a good cross-brand comparison, check out the Sole F65 we’ve reviewed here. Like all new treadmills produced by ProForm, this Trainer 14.0 comes iFit-enabled, complete with Bluetooth heart rate monitoring and automatic trainer control to be used in conjunct with its 14″ high-definition touchscreen. Whether I’m wanting to run, jog, or walk in my workouts, I can see this unit as a reliable partner for all things cardio.

In Brief

The 2024 ProForm Trainer 14.0 is part of what I call the “Goldilocks Club” of treadmills. Not too big, not too small, it hits that sweet spot most users want. Priced as part of an iFit special, you can buy the machine in exchange for a three-year membership with that app, at $39 per month or $1,404. This means you get both the app and the machine for one low price instead of having to pay for both separately. The Trainer 14.0 measures 33.5″ x 66″ x 57″ and weighs 250 pounds. Designed with a 20″ x 60″ tread belt and 3.0 CHP motor, it’s the right size for most folks to enjoy either running or walking. The first thing you’ll probably notice is the 14″ HD touchscreen which is designed to work with the brand’s proprietary workout app, iFit. As with most ProForm machines designed to work with that app, the 14.0 can work without it, but the screen goes into a default manual mode. With a top speed of 12 miles per hour and incline range up to 12%, there’s little you can’t do by way of workouts with this unit.

In-Depth Review of the ProForm Trainer 14.0

Why We Like It

The ProForm Trainer 14.0 comes in with a great pricing special which allows you buy it and three years of iFit in the same $39 per month fee, or at once for $1,404. You’ll get the value of a large screen if that’s what you want, as well as live workouts and automatic trainer control if you elect to continue with iFit, and I can see a wide range of potential users here, from senior citizens to hard core athletes.

It Comes With A Spacious 14″ HD Screen

If you’re into live training and interactive workouts, this 14″ high-definition screen is what you’re wanting. Just as a comparison, one of my personal favorites in the world of treadmills happens to be the NordicTrack Commercial 1750, also built by the same manufacturer as this ProForm unit. It too has a 14″ screen, so that’s the company in which this unit is in. Like all iFit-produced treadmills, the screen only works with iFit and so no, you can’t watch Netflix or Hulu on it. But if interactive workouts are your thing, then 14 inches is big enough to make you feel like you’re actually right there on the Swiss Alps hiking the trails along with the instructors. What surprises me is how low cost the ProForm Trainer 14.0 is given the size of the screen. Typically screen and motor size drive cost. The NordicTrack Commercial 1750 for instance runs about $2,500.

Purchase of the ProForm Trainer 14.0 does require a three-year membership to iFit, so you’ll want to check out that plan in advance. I happen to be a big fan. iFit brings with it automatic trainer control and access to live and on-demand workouts. In addition to treadmill workouts, the program offers nutrition planning, strength training, yoga, biking, and just about everything else. Last I checked, there were more than 10,000 on-demand workouts with more coming every week. I’ve been using iFit for three years now and love it. Normally it runs $39 per month for a family plan. What’s unique here is how interactive the program is. If you’re used to programs you just watch and follow, give iFit a try. The program can sync with your heart rate monitor and control the incline and speed to match your target rates, all the while automatically following the workout paths, whether along the hills of Scotland or the jungle trails of the Amazon.

A Goldilocks Sized Home Treadmill

Not too big, not too small. The ProForm Trainer 14.0 measures 33.5″ x 66″ x 57″ and weighs just 250 pounds. With an industry standard 20″ x 60″ belt, you’re looking at a good mid-sized unit here that won’t take up the entire living room, and yet it won’t wobble while you run. I like this sized a unit myself and feel secure while using it. I’m 5’10 and weight a bit under 200 pounds. This length of belt is plenty for me to stride out upon, and yet it doesn’t take up the same floor space as say a ProForm Pro 9000, which measures 35.3″ x 77.3″ x 59.6″ when in use. Notice that extra foot in length, and yet, you only pick up two inches with that belt which is 22″ x 60″. If you’re looking a unit big enough to handle your workout and yet not so large as to dominate the room, the ProForm Trainer 14.0 might be for you.

Good Incline Features

The 2024 ProForm Trainer 14.0 features an incline up to 12% with top speeds of 12 miles per hour. Even if you’re into hard core High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), it’s unlikely you’ll ever outgrow the 12mph range. And when I crank up this treadmill to 12% incline, it feels like I’m hitting the mountain trails. In my experience, one of the best ways to increase workout intensity without increasing speed is to simply hike up the incline. You’ll notice as soon as that tread belt raises, the routine becomes harder. When I’m cutting weight for a bodybuilding show, incline training is one of my go-to tools. And if you’re using one of iFit’s travel workouts or the iFit’s Google Maps, these incline settings really do mimic the hills and hollers of tracks in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, or even Anarctica.

Easily Folded Up and Stored Away

I’m a big fan of folding treadmills and have written quite a bit about them here. Whereas in the old days, people were concerned about a folding treadmill’s stability, that’s not the case anymore. With the patented EasyLift Assist button, you can simply lift up the rear of the unit and watch it slide up into place. It’s really very simple to unfold thanks to the hydraulics, and you can read my step-by-step here with pictures. The whole process times out at about 8 seconds up, and 12 seconds down, per my own stopwatch. Folding treadmills roll easily about a floor on two front-mounted wheels. But they’re also easier to keep clean, repair, and lubricate the belts. If you do want to roll the unit to the side of the room when not in use, you’ll find the process easier than moving a bookshelf.

ProForm Trainer 14.0 Dimensions

The dimensions of the ProForm Trainer 14.0 are 33.5″ x 66″ x 57″ when in use. When folded, this treadmill measures 35″ x 65″ x 39″ and can be rolled away using the front-end wheels. When choosing a place to assemble and place this unit, be sure to measure the doorways. Remember that someday you’ll want to move this from the room and it’s always easier if it you can just fold it up and roll it out the door rather than have to disassemble the whole thing.

ProForm Trainer 14.0 Weight

The ProForm Trainer 14.0 weighs 250 pounds and supports up to 300 pounds in user weight.

What We Like:

  • The Motor

The ProForm Trainer 14.0 sports a 3.0 CHP motor and reaches 12 miles an hour pretty quietly. I was able to max out the speed without bothering my dog, who sleeps on my couch nearby

  • 14″ High-Definition Touchscreen

A 14″ HD screen makes workouts look like you’re watching television. When you’re only a few inches away the effects are quite real. What’s cool with these units is how touch-friendly they are. You’ll be able to select workouts and key in data very easily, just like a tablet or smartphone. The downside is the screen really only works with the iFit program. Now, it’s true you can use the treadmill even if you opt out of the $39 per month package, but the screen will default to a manual mode, and you’ll lose most of the value. It is not compatible with other programs.

  • Package Deal

You get both the machine and the iFit app for one price. Normally you’d have to pay about $1,100 for the machine and then the app costs on top of that, more than doubling the effective price. To me, this is a terrific deal which effectively halves the cost.

  • iFit Treadmill Workouts

That said, the iFit program is well worth the 30-day trial, after which it goes to $39 per month for the family plan. With more than 10,000 on-demand workouts as well as live trainer-led programming, the app also controls the treadmill’s automatic trainer control. In addition to treadmill workouts, iFit comes with nutrition counseling as well as strength training, yoga, rowing, and biking. You can use it anywhere as it downloads on both devices as well as television sets.

  • iFit Data Tracking

iFit keeps tabs on fitness stats with every session. Whenever a workout is completed, the data is logged into the treadmill and then paired with any other device on iFit. This makes getting exercise, nutrition, and lifestyle recommendations easier.

  • Incline Abilities

The ProForm Trainer 14.0 offers a 12% incline which is plenty to burn calories, boost the resting metabolic rate, spike cardiovascular conditioning level, and build muscle strength simultaneously. I have yet to fail to achieve my cardio goals by using the incline function. Even if I don’t want to run fast, simply elevating the incline will make me sweat every time.

  • Bluetooth Audio

Bluetooth audio capabilities allow you to listen to your favorite workout playlists through Premium Audio Speakers wirelessly, as well as sync with any number of other devices. This also lets users access instructor-led training. I’ve never had a problem syncing with my unit and I even have satellite Internet. It usually takes about 5 seconds to connect.

  • Cushioning Preferences

Prepping for a road on a cushy deck makes things too easy. This treadmill offers the ability to turn the cushioning on or off according to your preferences so you can save your joints and use the cushioning only when you need it. Keep in mind that by having it off, you’re adding 30% more impact to your joints, so you shouldn’t train this way in the long term.

  • Weight Capacity

This is a very solid treadmill and can support users of up to 300 pounds.

What We Don’t Like:

  • iFit-Dependent

The machine is great and so is the screen, but if you opt out of iFit, it loses a lot of value.

This Treadmill Could Be For You If You Want:

  • The iFit workout app
  • A cost-friendly treadmill with the option to stream workouts
  • A partnership with CostCo
  • A folding treadmill easily stored
  • A 14″ HD screen that works with iFit

Our Verdict:

The ProForm Trainer 14.0 is a great treadmill if you like iFit. If you aren’t into that program, the 14″ screen will lose a lot of value and I’d recommend checking out the Sole F65.
