Enabled for iFit and having some very respectable stats, the ProForm Sport 7.5 Treadmill has lots of appeal for shoppers with mid-sized treadmill budgets. It can especially help beginning and intermediate athletes reach higher levels of fitness. (Elite runners might prefer the Sport 9.0 S or 12.0 ST.) This treadmill has a 12% power incline, a 60″ track and a 2.75 HP motor.
The ProForm Sport 7.5 Treadmill looks remarkably similar to its older sibling, the Sport 7.0. What’s the difference? The console has changed. The main difference is that the Sport 7.0 console is iFit-compatible to work with an iFit monitor (sold separately) and the Sport 7.5 console is iFit-enabled to work with a tablet computer or phone. Another console difference is that only the Sport 7.5 Treadmill has a circular readout showing energy output (Watts). This meter makes it easy to understand your workout zone in a glance. A third difference is that the Sport 7.5 has two additional preset workouts (24 versus 22).
Workout variety on ProForm treadmills is plentiful. On the Sport 7.5, incline choices range from 0% to 12% and speeds are from .5 to 12 mph. You can make your own routines or choose from 24 preset workouts that can adjust the challenge automatically. For literally unlimited programming, you can add an iFit membership for $9.99/month. Benefits of iFit membership include customized workout downloads, high definition video workouts, virtual races and much more.
What We Like:
- Incline: Power controls can tilt the deck up to 12%. Training at just a slight incline (1% or 2%) can relieve stress from over your ankles, knees and hips. The higher the incline, the more rapidly you will burn calories. Enhanced muscle definition is a third benefit; the incline helps you target different muscle groups.
- Full track: The Sport 7.5 has a standard 20″ x 60″ running surface. It’s long enough for almost any runner to take full strides.
- Program Variety: Two dozen workout programs for interval training and tempo are included. The trainer can also be used in manual mode and with unlimited iFit workouts.
- iFit-Enabled: iFit workout programming is a key to the popularity of ProForm treadmills. iFit-enabled treadmills can use a tablet computer or smartphone to show iFit’s interactive workouts. This feature costs $9.99/month and brings an unlimited workout selection along with data tracking, menu planning and other fitness benefits. A popular application in iFit is the Google Maps app, which lets you virtually walk, jog or run along any real-life route. The ProForm Sport 7.5 Treadmill will automatically tilt its deck by up to 10% to copy the terrain.
- Motor: The ProForm Sport 7.5 Treadmill is powered by a commercial-grade 2.75 HP motor. Although 3.0 HP has become the industry standard for a runner’s treadmill, 2.75 is enough horsepower for occasional running and daily jogging or walking, unless you’re especially heavy. - Small Rollers: The Sport 7.5’s tread belt moves on 1.9″ rollers. Larger rollers would promote longer track life. Roller size is an important factor behind treadmill prices.
- Warranty: The warranty is short for the treadmill’s full price of $1,299. You’ll get lifetime coverage on the frame and motor, and labor is free during the first year, but parts are protected for just two years. The same warranty is provided for the very similar Sport 7.0, which costs less.
Our Verdict:
The ProForm Sport 7.5 Treadmill can help make fitness fun. However, full price seems steep considering the two-year warranty. We’d wait for a sale. Meanwhile the Sport 7.0 could be available for much less, even after you add the cost of an iFit monitor.
We’re also fans of the sub-$1,000 Horizon T101. The T101 is a best buy for durability, power, incline size and preset programming.
