NordicTrack Incline Trainer X3

Editor's Rating: 9.2/10
Update: This model has been discontinued. To find a suitable replacement, check out our treadmill finder here.

NordicTrack Incline Trainers are hybrids between regular treadmills and stairclimbers. Exercisers walk on a flat plane, but it can be tilted up to 40%. Incline training gets faster results than traditional treadmill training by forcing exercisers to use their muscles differently.

What We Like

  • Efficient workouts: Like all NordicTrack incline trainers, the X3 tilts to a 40% incline. The personal trainer Jillian Michaels has stated that training at a 40% incline burns 5x the calories of walking flat.
  • Low-impact workouts: By walking on the X3 or any incline trainer, a walker can achieve results more quickly like a runner, but put less stress on his or her body.
  • Console: The X3 comes with a Grafixx High Altitude Display in addition to standard data readouts. Users can see their virtual running trail in 3D, change viewing angles, and zoom in to see an animated companion. Nine workout programs are built-in and the machine is iFit-ready. NordicTrack incline trainers are also iPod-compatible and have speaker systems.
  • Price: Considering their efficiency and luxury features, NordicTrack Incline Trainers are well worth the price of a standard mid-grade treadmill for non-runners.

What We Don’t Like

  • Not for running: If you’re interested in steep incline training and treadmill running, then you’ll need more than one exercise machine. Like other incline trainers, the NordicTrack X3 is not suitable for running because of its short track length.

Our Verdict

The NordicTrack X3 incline trainer is an excellent option for exercisers who want efficient and low-impact workouts. Extras including 3D graphics, personal training iFit workouts, and a great sound system can help keep exercisers motivated for years. However, these machines are generally not suitable for runners because of their shorter tracks.

The X3 can support users weighing up to 300 pounds. Customers who weigh 300-350 pounds are advised to try the X7i, which has a 350-pound capacity.

The NordicTrack X5i and X7i have more advanced display systems and workouts than the X3, but this might not be worth an additional $600.
